Ridge hikes are a beautiful variation of mountain hiking or trail running. Reaching a pass or summit with stunning panoramic views while hiking or trail running, before descending back into the valley, allows you to enjoy hours of summit bliss. Challenging ridges are spiced with exposed sections and easy climbing passages until you reach a safe haven to catch your breath. This variety makes the ridge experience particularly exciting. I'd like to share my experiences from my ridge hike in 2025 with you. All the ridges are rated T6 and require the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate this terrain safely and efficiently, but they offer unforgettable experiences.

Allmegrat ridge

Above Kandersteg, the airy ridge stretches from First to Bunderspitz. Those wanting to save their feet can take the Allmenalp cable car to gain some elevation. This allows for a quick ascent to First, and after a short descent, the exposed ridge begins. Here, you'll soon find yourself alone. Initially, you'll stay close to the ridge crest, enjoying the wonderful airy conditions. Sometimes you'll need to sit, sometimes climb, before reaching easier terrain. Further along, you'll bypass several exposed rock steps until you can rejoin the other hikers at Bunderspitz. A truly unique ridge experience.

Waloprunde (circuit of Walop)

The entire Walop circuit encompasses the Stierengrat ridge to the Kaiseregg summit and a ridge walk over the Schafberg back to lake Walop. The airy crux of the Stierengrat ridge features rock-solid foundations. Griffon vultures perch on the individual rock towers. These birds have a wingspan of up to 2.70 meters and appear here in large groups of 10-20 individuals. You are circled, they repeatedly take flight, and you feel observed. It is both impressive and beautiful. At the end of the circuit, the scramble to the Rotechaste awaits, followed by the descent to lake Walop, which invites you to swim.

Latrejespitz Dreispitz

The route to Spiggengrund is long, and access by car is no longer possible. An e-bike is a good option to shorten the long journey. From Eggmittelberg, you quickly reach the Latrejefeld alpine pasture. Following faint tracks or the obvious path, you soon arrive at the ridge. Here, a short breather is advisable before tackling the truly exposed crux. The existing fixed ropes are more decorative than helpful and would be better suited to a museum. The rest of the ridge is considerably easier, but the pathless descent requires careful navigation, especially in foggy conditions. An adventure to remember.

Schwalmere Southwest Ridge

Another tour in the Spiggengrund. The traverse from the southwest ridge to the east ridge begins at Gruenerli with a gentle grassy ridge that soon ends at the rocky steps of the Britterhöreli. The ascent through the rocks is easy, and soon you reach the crux of the tour: a steep descent through grass, requiring careful footing, leads to the ascent of the next tower, a steep but well-featured flank. Swarmed by butterflies, the rest of the way is pure pleasure. The long ridge to the Schwalmere is soon behind you, rewarding you with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains.

Rossflue - Schafnase - Giswilerstöcke

The tour starts from Fluonalp with the ascent to the Rossflue. The ridge from the Rossflue to the Schafnase is partly exposed and forms the crux of the tour. However, the rock is sufficiently solid, so the ridge scramble can be enjoyed with a stunning panorama. The Älpermagronen (Alpine macaroni and cheese) at Fluonalp taste all the better for it.

Augstmatthorn

From Lombachalp, the ascent to the Augsmatthorn is a classic. Nowhere else offers a more beautiful sunrise. Here, you can dream of your next tour across the Brienzergrat, a classic trail run for experienced runners in exposed terrain.

Brienzergrat integral

The classic route in the Bernese Oberland, from Interlaken to the Brünig pass high above lake Brienz. A long and challenging tour, rated T4/5, which should not be underestimated due to its length and the constant ascents and descents in sometimes exposed terrain. A unique experience is guaranteed.

Nüschletegrat

A beautiful grassy ridge above lake Thun. From Nüschlete, the ridge extends to the Laseberg, with a short, exposed rock step that requires climbing. A good introduction for first tours in the T6 difficulty range.

Leissiggrat

Gemsgrat

The Ochse is the highest peak in the Gantrisch region, offering wonderful panoramic views of the Bernese Oberland. The ridge traverse via the Louigrat to the Ochse, with the key section being the crossing of the ridge connecting Ochse-Gemsflue-Bürgle via the Gemsgrat and descent via the Bürgle north ridge, is a classic and exhilarating ridge climb in the Bernese alps. Right from the start of the Gemsgrat, you find yourself in exposed terrain, a true test of your nerves.

Silberhornhütte-Schwarzmönch with ascent via Chatzewägli

A long, challenging hike with some difficult route finding in the ascent via Chatzewägli, in a beautiful alpine setting. The views into the valley and of the north faces southwest of the Jungfrau are breathtaking.

Niesengrat

The section of the Niesen ridge up to the Chratzchummisattel is the easier half of the 21km long Niesen ridge. Even here, careful footwork on brittle rock is required. The entire Niesen ridge remains the project list for now.
